Valentine’s Day dinner cruise on Sydney Harbour

A Family Valentine’s Day Celebration Like No Other

Valentine’s Day, the day of love – the day when people think of the most outrageous ways to proclaim or cement their love for the coming year!  Like a valentine’s day cruise or hot air balloons.  I am not a follower of these ‘special’ days as I believe every day should be a Valentine’s Day with love being shown through thoughtful little gestures. Well, all my ideals fall on deaf ears with my other half.   My husband takes it upon himself to make all our Valentine’s Days special!

Once we ended up on a surprise camping holiday, sharing a glass of champagne and waking up to a spectacular morning view of rolling hills, greenery and silence. After our family grew with two new little members, the hubby couldn’t unleash his full potential for Valentine’s Day surprises. But he always manages to pull something out of the bag and surprise me in the end!

Last year was particularly special, when he surprised me with a Valentine’s Day dinner cruise on Sydney Harbour. The Valentine’s Day dinner cruise on an exclusive glass boat made it the perfect romantic venue! Paired with spectacular unobstructed views Sydney Harbour and a gourmet four-course meal, it was an evening that will remain with me for a long time to come! Another aspect that made the cruise memorable was the attention to detail by the wait staff, they made us feel like family!

That Valentine’s Day dinner cruise had made up for V-day celebrations for at least two years! So we made a pact this year that there would be no celebrations and Valentine’s Day would be like any other regular day. Knowing my husband though, I knew he would have something up his sleeve, but I thought it would be a bouquet of white lilies with a nice note. Apparently not!

I decided to leave work an hour early so the family could have something special for dinner. As I pulled into the garage, I noticed his car parked up the street. It’s a classic Porsche Carrera RS 2.7 and you wouldn’t miss it as it’s painted a unique shade of light green. I didn’t think much of it and went inside the house, only to be wowed with the surprise of my life!

The living room had been transformed into a comfy tent with blankets hung from the roof and soft cushions and hearts strewn all over. And in the middle, the three of them were holding pink balloons in their hands with ‘pop me’ written on them. My youngest was screaming ‘Happy Valentine’s Day Mommy’, and asked me to pop his balloon first. There were hand written notes inside all the balloons, all for me as their Valentine.

They had arranged a movie night in the tent, complete with popcorn and fizzy drinks. We ordered take-out from our favourite Chinese place, made ourselves comfortable in front of the television for a screening of Lion King. All of us joined with Simba and Nala with our renderings of ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’. The kids with a little help from their dad had also made chocolate-dipped strawberries for dessert!

It definitely was a special Valentine’s Day, celebrating it with all my Valentines!
